ISSA Girls Football Tournament

by Margarita Malkina (Russia)

At the beginning of May, the traditional girls’ football competition had taken place in London. There were seven teams from international schools including Saint Michael’s College. All of the participants showed great team spirit and skills in football.

Saint Michael’s team (goalkeeper: Clara ; defense: Benazira, Margarita; middle field: Adriana, Virginia, Maria Alvarez, Maria Gallego, Indiara; strikers: Elena and Renata) were hostages of ISL (International School of London) girls’ soccer team. Even though the team had a lot of bad luck and could only manage 6th place, the time that the girls spent in London and the experience was unforgettable.

During the first day, our team did not play as we previously expected and this wasn’t helped by the unfortunate serious injury of our main goalkeeper, Clara Marcos. The replacement was first Virginia and then Maria Gallego, who did brilliantly for her first time. After the first day of the tournament, girls and the host sisters went out to the Mexican restaurant in London. However, on the second day of the competition Saint Michael’s team managed to win one game, drawing with future champions out combating the tiredness and exhaustion. The main heroes of the tournament were Adriana (the captain), Virginia (who were named “the second goal keeper”) and Elena (who scored). Next year the competition will be in Lisbon. Wishing everyone good luck.
