INTRODUCTION
This is my final newsletter of this academic year. I hope you have found them
to be useful and informative. I always appreciate feedback so if you have any
comments please dont hesitate to let me know.
ACADEMIC
At the time of writing the only results we have are those for 2 Bachillerato.
Unfortunately, they were very disappointing. This didnt come as a big
surprise, however, as many of the students in 2 Bachillerato did not work
nearly as hard as they needed to this year. We should receive the Selectividad
results shortly. I will keep you informed of the other results in my next
newsletter after the summer. A Level results are due on 14th August and GCSE
results on 21st August.
NEW BUILDING DEVELOPMENT
I am very pleased to report that work on
our second new residential building has now been completed. It is an excellent
facility offering an extra 27 beds, including 8 single and 4 en-suite rooms.
Work on the new student common room and on re-furbishing the Library started
earlier this month. The common room is going to include a TV lounge, games area
(for pool & table tennis), Internet café, dance floor and sitting
area. It should make life in the residence even more attractive for residential
students. We are putting in a mezzanine floor in the Library, which will
increase floor space by about 60%, and also providing internet access for
students for academic work. We are currently in the process of recruiting a
Librarian and some Library Assistants. This new facility will add significant
value to the students academic experience at Saint Michaels.
NEW CATERING COMPANY
I mentioned in my last newsletter that we had just signed a contract with a new
catering company. I am very pleased to report that we have a new chef, Ms Cathy
Haines, and she is already doing an excellent job. The quality and variety of
the food has improved enormously. One or two of us will be on diets very
shortly!
